Prior to 1971, the Department of Medicine was a department headed by the Central Government of Pakistan. After 1971, it was operating as an attached department of the Ministry of Health and Population Control. In 1974, the Drug Administration under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare became a separate Directorate. In 2010, the Department of Drug Administration was upgraded to the Directorate in 2010. The Directorate of Drug Administration, the only licensing and regulatory authority of the country's medicine under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The Drug Administration administers all the medicines related to the practice of conventional medicine.
